Blink nudges

Pick from 45 emoji that blink, wink or squish shut every 1 to 60 seconds. Or choose a soft screen effect instead, like dimmed corners or a gentle glow.

20-20-20 breaks

Every 20 minutes a telescope ๐Ÿ”ญ appears with a 20-second countdown, so you look up and rest your focus.

Smart mode on Mac

Optional. The camera notices when you stop blinking and only nudges you then. Frames are checked on your Mac and thrown away.

Why it matters

Blinking too little

Every blink spreads a fresh layer of tears over your eye. It keeps the surface wet, brings it oxygen, washes away dust and keeps your vision sharp. At a screen, blinks drop from about 15โ€“20 a minute to 5โ€“7, and many are only half-blinks.

  • Dry, burning or gritty eyes, redness and blurry moments
  • Tired eyes and headaches, often called digital eye strain
  • Over months, chronic dry eye and clogged oil glands in the eyelids

Skipping eye breaks

Looking at something close keeps the focusing muscle inside your eye tensed, and your eyes turn slightly inward. Hours of that without a break tire them out.

  • Eye fatigue and headaches
  • Blurry distance vision right after long screen sessions
  • For children, lots of close-up work and little time outdoors is linked to nearsightedness

Screens and glasses

Nearsightedness means faraway things look blurry, and it leads to wearing glasses or contact lenses to see clearly. In children, lots of close-up screen and reading time with little time outdoors is linked to becoming nearsighted and to it getting worse.

  • Researchers expect about half of the world's population to be nearsighted by 2050
  • Time outdoors, about 2 hours a day, is the strongest protection for children
  • In adults, screens cause tired eyes rather than lasting changes, but they often reveal a problem that was already there

For adults, screens are not known to cause lasting damage, and these symptoms ease with rest, breaks and blinking. If dryness, pain or blurry vision doesn't go away, see an eye doctor.
